MADRID ACCELERATE TALKS OVER €80M MIDFIELD ANCHOR AS PRE-SEASON OPENS

MADRID — Negotiations over the club's primary midfield target accelerated sharply this week, with sources on both sides describing a deal as “close” for the first time since contact opened in May.

The fee under discussion is €80m plus performance-related add-ons, structured over four instalments. Personal terms are not expected to be an obstacle: the player agreed the framework of a five-year contract last month.

“The club wants this closed before the plane leaves for Chicago. Everyone is aligned.”

Internally, the recruitment team views the signing as the final structural piece of the summer. A medical is provisionally pencilled in for Friday morning, subject to the clubs formalising documentation.
